In this gallery you will find the process behind the development of 'Anomaly' FW17 Menswear Collection that was debuted in May of 2016 at California College of the Arts. This collection began with the need to reconnect with the roots of my first interaction with fashion, where as a kid I would make apparel out of scraps from tailor shops that I’d often visit with my mother, growing up in Dominican Republic. With this in mind, I sought to manipulate and adapt scraps of fabrics into mended details in the final production of the garments. In my research, I was drawn towards the color arrangements of Paul Klee in works like "Old City Architecture 1924", and more specifically his use of scrap fabrics to make "Hand Puppets" in 1925. Within this concept a story began to come alive in which a puppeteer became so involved with their work that they'd utilize cut-offs from their own garments to adapt the puppets garments as they wear-and-tear through their lifespan. 'Anomaly' showcases these details, through patch-work using Japanese "Boro" mending, and Sashiko. Metal hooks and nylon straps are used to drape and adapt garments as the wearer seems fit. Ripped necklines and hems are left exposed in resemblance to the raw organic detailing found on Paul Klee's "Hand Puppets".
INERTIA: MENSWEAR COLLECTION SP17
In this section you will find designs for the Mens SS17 'INERTIA' collection. This collection features minimalist, streamlined silhouettes, giving specific attention to detail that depicts the lines and shapes found in Virgilio Marchi. By using natural fibers like cotton and silk, garments can be dyed naturally to achieve the foggy blues and inky navy tones. Overall, depicting a structured yet relaxed fit to the collection.
